Buddha Dordenma

Standing majestically atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, overlooking Thimphu Valley, Buddha Dordenma is one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. This massive golden statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, towering at 54 meters (177 feet) high, is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. Constructed to fulfill an ancient prophecy, the statue embodies peace, prosperity, and spiritual awakening.

Made of bronze and gilded in gold, the statue houses 125,000 smaller Buddha statues, each intricately crafted and placed within its hollow interior. Beyond its spiritual significance, Buddha Dordenma represents Bhutan’s deep commitment to Buddhism and the vision of promoting global harmony. Surrounded by panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley and Himalayan mountains, it serves as a serene place for meditation, reflection, and religious ceremonies.
